Six Wedding Trends for 2016

Go back to all news

The wedding season is here and plenty of future brides and grooms will be making the final preparations for their big day. To help inspire your future wedding plans, we’ve put together a list of the top 6 wedding trends for 2016. From playful themes, to wedding dresses that will wow, here’s how you can keep your wedding on trend.

Pick a theme

Forget about simple colour matching, in 2016 you can expect to be seeing plenty of imaginative wedding themes. We’re loving this year’s wedding styles, which range from the rustic, barn-themed weddings, to the incoming trend of metallics (think glittery table cloths and golden chandeliers). But our favourite trend of all has to be mediaeval, an experience we offer at Coombe Abbey in our Abbeygate venue. From the decor to the cuisine, you’ll truly believe you’re celebrating in a different era.

Mismatch bridesmaids

Historically, bridesmaids have always worn the exact same dress, ensuring the colours of the dresses coincide with the overall colour theme of the wedding.  Well, it appears that we’re experiencing a bridesmaid revolution, as the latest trend calls for mix of dresses in a variety of colours and styles. So, whether you decide to stick with one colour but fancy varying up the style of dresses, or wish to use a rainbow of colours, bridesmaids will never look quite the same again.

Ditch the cake

The wedding cake is often the focal point of the big day, but recently the traditional cake has been swapped for even more delicious treats for the bride and groom to enjoy. From ice cream to the French croquembouche, and even cheese boards, wedding cakes are experiencing a bit of a makeover. We wonder what you’ll decide to have on your special day?

Cascading bouquets

We’re under the firm belief that flowers make a wedding, but the trends for bouquets often change, and 2016 seems to be making way for the cascading style. From loose flowing leaves, to a trail of elegant flowers in an array of soft colours, there’s a number of ways you can incorporate this 2016 trend into your upcoming wedding day.

Wooden details

In keeping with the rustic and mediaeval themes of 2016, wood is also a big trend you’ll be seeing everywhere. Wood can be used in all sorts of ways, including name placements, serviette rings, candle holders and wedding table setting boards. Plus, the more rustic you go the cheaper the wood is – win, win.

Bye, bye blush

2015 was the year of blushing pink and peachy hues, but 2016 is all about bright colours. Starting with your bridesmaids’ dresses (think rainbow), through to your colour-popping flowers and table decorations that stand out, there’s so much you can bring to a wedding just by adding a touch of colour. So don’t be shy, and embrace the colours of 2016 – just think how amazing your photos will look.

Time to say I do?
