Coombe Abbey Clinches Retail Award

Coombe Abbey has had plenty to celebrate in 2015, but clinching the Retail Award in the Coventry Telegraph Business Awards was the icing on the cake.

We are celebrating our 20th anniversary, and have been recognised in several industry awards. But for our General Manager, Ron Terry, going up on stage at the Ricoh Arena was the proudest moment so far in what looks set to be a memorable year.

He said, “of course it is great to be recognised in the industry, and we have featured in several awards this year and did pick up the Best Bedroom award in the Conference & Hospitality Show Awards 2015 very recently.

But many of the businesses in the room at the Ricoh, the readers of the Telegraph, and the judges, are local and regional customers. So, to get recognition from them is very special.

Coombe is a wonderful place with a superb history, and as well has running a successful hotel with all that involves, every member of our team feels a special responsibility because the building is known by so many people, and is so much a part of the Coventry and Warwickshire fabric.

We feel that Coombe Abbey truly lives up to its ‘No ordinary Hotel’ brand. The hotel offers a unique experience from the moment the guests walk through the front door, and is reflected throughout each area of the hotel right up to departure.”

Having a superb setting gives Coombe Abbey the chance to offer something unique to each and every guest, but it’s our staffs’ professional and strategic approach that has seen the business grow considerably over the last three years.

The new marquee has opened up markets in corporate business, as well as weddings and parties. Ron and his team have extended the programme of themed events and added Murder Mystery dinners, Bavarian Nights and Night At The Musicals to run alongside the ever-popular Medieval Banquets.

A new luxury afternoon tea has been introduced, and has seen bookings soar from 35 a week to well over 800, while 2014’s programme of Christmas parties were the most successful ever.

Ron added, “I would like to think that our success is down to a very strong team, [who have been] building the business across all its bases, and ensuring that the customer is at the centre of everything we do.

That is an easy aim to set, but far more difficult to deliver. I think we have done just that, and now it is about pushing on to build on that success and at the same time bring more people to Coventry and Warwickshire for the first time.”
