The way we celebrate weddings has changed recently, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy a day full of love, happiness and special memories.

Although guest lists are now limited to 15, at Coombe Abbey Hotel we are even more dedicated to helping you with planning a small wedding safely and in style.

It can be a daunting task to rearrange wedding plans or organise a covid-friendly service. To help, we asked our Coombe Abbey Wedding Planner Jo for her advice on planning a small wedding at our historic hotel.

What advice would you give to couples who are having to streamline their guest list to just 15?

We are now holding smaller weddings at Coombe Abbey Hotel that have up to 15 guests. My advice to couples is to remember that these decisions are completely out of their hands. Immediate family is a good place to start and then add on other important social bubbles such as bridesmaids or the best man.

For guests who are unable to attend the wedding, does Coombe Abbey offer assistance with live streaming the event?

We advise all of our couples to hold a Zoom ceremony so guests who are not able to be physically at the hotel can still enjoy the service. We can accommodate for this in each of our wedding rooms and the registrars are also more than happy with this arrangement.

Will celebrations at Coombe Abbey still include a wedding breakfast?

Yes wedding breakfasts are an important part of our couple’s special day and so we have ensured all of our rooms are large enough for social distancing and each room has a sanitising area.

We are now only offering a sit-down plated service for the wedding breakfast and buffets are no longer available.

Can couples and guests enjoy a socially distanced dancefloor?

Unfortunately, no evening entertainment is permitted at the moment and we are not setting up a dancefloor in the rooms. The bride and groom are allowed to have a first dance and we will supply a Bose high quality music system in each of the rooms. Guests are more than welcome to play their own music through this system.

What safety measures have been put in place to protect both wedding guests and staff at Coombe Abbey?

All of our staff must wear masks and we have set up hand sanitisation stations around the hotel and within rooms. We’re only permitting the allowed number of 15 guests and following the government’s guidelines to ensure our team and hotel guests are safe.

Should a couple need to postpone their wedding due to Covid-19, what is Coombe Abbey’s policy?

In uncertain times, we have updated our wedding policies to reflect the difficulties couples are facing. Should we need to postpone a wedding due to Covid-19, Coombe Abbey will either offer a refund or postpone the event to a later date and keep the pricing the same. This means there is no increase in cost for moving the wedding date to the following year.
