Fancy yourself as a bit of a twitcher?

If you love being outdoors and surrounded by nature, getting involved with bird watching is a relaxing way to experience some fresh air and unwind.

It’s an activity we love encouraging others to enjoy in Coombe Abbey Country Park, which is home to a variety of different birdlife.

Life on the lake

As the County’s second largest water mass totalling approximately 80 acres, our estate lake supports Warwickshire’s largest heronry and the reed beds of Coombe Pool are an unusual and important habitat in the county.
As well as our Grey Herons, around the lake you’ll be able to spot Mute Swans, Moorhens, Tufted and Ferruginous Ducks and also Reed Warblers.

Our hidden bird hide

To watch the birds at their best in their natural habitat, try to stay hidden and quiet preferably within a bird hide. You can find our hide along the Heron’s Way walk path which provides a fantastic view of our resident herons. Don’t forget to bring your binoculars for a closer look at what the birds are up to.

Remember if a bird flies away or makes repeated alarm calls, you’re too close and if it leaves you won’t get a good view. It’s best to stay on the designated paths and inside our bird hides to avoid causing them distress.

Other birds in Coombe Abbey Country Park

From Blue Tits, Great Tits and Marsh Tits, to Nuthatches, Kingfishers, Chaffinches and Robins, Coombe Abbey Park is bursting with birdsong.

Our historic woodland is a great place to spot wildlife hiding in amongst the branches of our Giant Redwoods. Explore this quiet and enchanting place with a notepad to write down any sightings you catch!

We also love seeing what birds you’ve spotted in the park through your social media posts, so don’t forget to share any photos with us after your visit.

Feed the birds

Did you know you can purchase a bag of bird feed from the Visitors Desk for just £1 per bag? It’s a much healthier option than feeding the birds bread, which we don’t encourage at Coombe Abbey Park.

A great day out

Warm up after your time twitching outdoors in our Cafe in the Park. With hot drinks and a delicious selection of breakfasts, lunches and light bites it’s a perfect place to look back at your bird photos.

We look forward to welcoming you to Coombe Abbey Country Park very soon.
