The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, Coventry, is always an interesting place to explore and their latest touring exhibition from the Natural History Museum is a must see; a collection of 100 stunning wildlife images entitled Wildlife Photography of the Year 2018. They are also showcasing CASE: Coventry Art Societies Exhibition. In its 15th year, artists from one of the main Coventry art societies have the opportunity to submit their art work in the form of paintings, sculpture and pottery. For those of you who like the art of performance, keep a look out for the Coventry Comedy Festival 2019. Comedians and acts will congregate across different city centre venues between 3-12 May 2019 to entertain you with family shows, musical comedy, improvisations and stand-up shows. For more information, and the full line up, see their website.

For nature lovers, enjoy a walk in some of the most beautiful gardens including…

Brandon Marsh Nature Centre. As the headquarters of the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, this beautiful 220 acre Reserve has an orchard, mouse maze, mini-beast homes, sensory garden and recycled garden as well as bird watching hides and an Onyx Nature Trail. You can also take a well-deserved tea and cake stop at their Tea Room. A truly hidden gem, Caludon Castle Park is home to Coventry’s only castle remains and offers a lovely setting for a relaxing walk, picnic and a chance to see one of only 20 Ancient Scheduled Monuments in Coventry. Our very own Coombe Country Park is the perfect place to enjoy your May bank holiday!

We have 500 breath-taking acres of lush countryside to explore with family activities and children’s play sections as well as woodland walks, formal gardens filled with the most beautiful flowers and plants, lakeside walks and one of the largest heronries in the UK. After, take the time to take the weight off your feet and enjoy a bite to eat in our restaurant and browse our visitor centre and gift shop.

History lovers will be delighted in Coventry and Warwickshire, there’s so many places to choose from…

Coventry Cathedral. Coventry’s wonderful old and new cathedrals are both a must visit and are a historical tribute to that fateful night, 14th November 1940, when the old cathedral was bombed. A place for reflection, walk through the old ruins, visit the new cathedral and take in the numerous tributes to peace and reconciliation, including the Statue of Reconciliation and the Charred Cross. Introduce the children to the fun of history with a Coventry Young

Explorer’s Discovery Trail (suitable for children age 4-11 years). Pick them up for free from either Coventry Cathedral or the Coventry Tourist Information Centre (located inside the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum) and set off for around 60 minutes of trail fun that takes in some really special city centre attractions! Stratford upon Avon is a great place to visit if you’re looking for fun bank holiday events in Coventry and Warwickshire as there’s always so much going on and, what better way to enjoy all the attractions than on a Stratford bus tour?

For those who like to get around on foot, try a Shakespeare Walking Tour of Stratford. For those who like their history a little more interactive, try the ‘open day – a mediaeval way’ at The Weaver’s House where you’ll have the chance to take part in mediaeval table top games, as well as learning more about why Coventry was such an important place during this period. Taking place on Sunday 5th May 2019, this is a rare Sunday opening for this charming place.
